February 18-21

Grade 4 Weekly Blog

Updates:
- Feb. 26th: Pink Shirt Day and Grade 1 assembly
- Please return field trip form with payment. Thanks to all volunteers who will be attending. We now meet our adult support ratio... so thank you!!

Homework:
- Finish French poem "Les Colours d'Hiver with illustrations
- Online "My Alberta" slides in Google Docs
- Practice multiplication and division facts to 81 (we will have a check in on Monday to show questions using personal strategies, such as grouping, sharing, drawing visuals, skip counting and using a multiplication chart)

Literacy:
We have finished and published our stories! Students have worked very hard to use the elements of a fiction story to create their very own masterpiece. They will be illustrating their title pages next week and completing a self-evaluation checklist. Students will get to share their stories with peers in other grades next week.

Math:
Question: How many ways can you show your understanding of this division problem?

Students are sharing their personal math strategies in a variety of ways to solve one problem. This demonstrates an in-depth understanding of Number Sense and Multiplication/Division concepts.

Social Studies:

Students were very interested in our look into Alberta's historical site "Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump."

We watched a short "Travel Alberta" video to show the site to the students so they can visualize where the buffalo were run off the cliff hundreds of years ago. They had a lot of interesting questions and we look forward into further study of this historical site.

French/ Art:
Students have continued working on the colours of winter poems in French. Along with their poem they drew a winter scene to align with the words from their poems.
