Literacy
This week we focused on why writer's write. We brainstormed various reasons why writers would write, and student's came up with some great ideas!

During our Daily Five centre, students journaled about what they like writing best and why thy like writing that way.

Math
On Monday we had a check in to see where the kids are at after working on representing and comparing numbers to 10 000. Students were asked to bring their chek-ins home to show parents and have them signed. Some students still need some practice and the concepts will continue to be reinforced as we move onto the next topic (addition and subtraction of numbers to10 000).

One Tuesday we had a pre-assessment for addition and subtraction of numbers to 10 000 and then began our first lessons with estimating addition of numbers and developing number sense (both classes worked on similar but different sets of numbers).

Question: How does rounding numbers and then adding to estimate their sum help us (ex.99+ 29+38)?

Question: How did we use the base ten blocks and a number line to help us with estimating addition (the sum) of numbers (ex. 99+29+38=>100+30+40)?

Building fluency with number facts and number sense with games:

Activity: Teach your parents how to play make 10, 15 or whatever number facts you need to work on. (What numbers make 15 using 2 cards, 3 cards? What does it mean to use doubles plus 1?)

Social Studies
We are just beginning to think about our own Alberta story and how our identity has been shaped by the people and places we are connected to.
*Stay tuned for the children coming home with interview questions to inquire about their family's history,  stories and the places they have been to*

French
With all the changes in the weather, some students initiated this talk and so we began: Quel temp fait il!

Question: Quel temps fait it aujourd' hui? What's the weather like today? If you made a comic in french, what was it about?

Art
Students made poppy's and greenery to create a wreath for our Remembrance Day Assembly. We read "A Poppy Is To Remember" which informs students where the symbol of where a poppy comes from.

QUESTION: Why do we wear a poppy on the days leading up to and on Remembrance Day?
